Publishing a book yourself is incredibly easy nowadays. You have access to so many free writing tools and services that anyone can get a book on Amazon. However, that doesn’t mean you’ll be successful.
The hardest part about self-publishing is marketing. If people don’t know your book exists, they’re not going to buy it. Coincidentally, marketing is also one of the most expensive when self-publishing your book.
Well, at least if you’re looking to make a few sales.
Why is Marketing Hard for Self-Publishing?
Marketing takes more than just sharing the link to your book on social media. While you can generate a few sales that way, it’s much better if you diversify. And that’s when things get a bit complicated.
If you plan on using ads, you need to look up keywords and phrases to reach your readers. If you want in-store physical sales, you need to do the leg work to approach those retailers and negotiate to stock your book. And if you’re exceptionally introverted, it’ll be more difficult for you to attend in-person events.
These are just a few of the situations of marketing that you’ll need to keep in mind.
As a self-published author, all of the marketing for your book rests solely on your shoulders. That means you need to set aside time and money if you want to do it right.
Should You Hire a Professional Marketer?
There are all kinds of professionals out there who can help you market your book to the right audience. However, a lot of them will charge quite a bit for their services. So, you’ll need to have a bit of a bankroll to make things happen.
Make sure you properly vet the marketer, though. You don’t want to drop hundreds or thousands of dollars for very little return.
