Things have shifted quite a bit in my personal life. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it gives me incentive to make several things happen for WriterSanctuary and my other brands. I can’t go into too much detail yet, but I can say that it’s a life-changing event.

Well, I suppose it’s more of a professional-changing event, but it affects me on a personal level.

Anyway, goals for June are going to be those that I can realistically set in stone. That means doing whatever I can to make them happen, such as spending less time sitting around or getting sucked into other diversions that I often find myself entrenched.

However, I’m also realistic. I know certain things aren’t going to happen due to time constraints or day-to-day living. That means I am also going to work on not being so hard on myself when things don’t happen.

Perhaps laying it all out will help me come up with an actionable plan and maybe help someone accomplish their own goals as well.

What Am I Doing in June 2025?

This is going to be a watershed moment for WriterSanctuary. Things in the background are shifting rapidly, and I need certain things to happen to help me gain some sense of stability.

I know, it’s a bit cryptic. Let’s just say that it’s imperative that 2025 is a record-breaking year for me.

Maximizing Time Management

First and foremost, this month is going to focus on time management. I keep saying I’ll work on it, but now it’s a bit more of a crucial element for what I want to accomplish in the next seven months.

That means spending less time watching random shows and more time working on the things I want to accomplish.

Now, this doesn’t mean that I’m going to sacrifice personal and family time. Some things are just more important than working on a book, blog, or video. But I often waste a lot of time on my own. Since this was supposed to be the Year of Time, I should be working on getting more done.

This goal is all about breaking my record for productively using my allotted time, which is an 8-hour work day, five days a week. In other words, I need to hit as close to 40 hours as I can Monday through Sunday.

Keep in mind I don’t track going to the bathroom, eating lunch, talking with family, or anything else that is not actual production time. Hitting 100% with those restrictions is extremely difficult, even if you work a regular job at some company.

Finishing the Books

Publishing Shadows of Atlantic City

Although I am waiting for the beta readers to finish the last round of edits for Shadows of Atlantic City, I can finish the book cover and prepare it for going live. The idea was to publish this month, but I’d rather publish a good book than a rushed one.

As I am preparing to attend more author events, I would love to offer something alongside Kingmaker.

My goal for June is relatively simple: finish the cover art. To do this, I am going to work on it during the writing sprints on Monday through Wednesday. That gives me plenty of time to put the finishing touches in Photoshop.

Wrapping Up the First Draft of Fury

Fury, the sequel to Kingmaker, is nearly complete. I estimate that it would take another 20,000 words or so to wrap up the story. Getting it finished before October is kind of a big deal as I would love to have both books available for Read Between the Stars.

Plus, it’s been a year and a half since I published Kingmaker. I want to give someone a reason to continue reading the saga.

This is another relatively simple goal: finish the first draft of Fury. Since it won’t take me long to wrap up the cover of Shadows, I can use the writing sprints to finish the book. This will use the same 2-hour block of time during the writing sprints after the cover art to Shadows is complete.

Finishing VII, Finally

VII is a horror novel I have on Wattpad that has been incomplete since 2016. I would love to finish writing it and potentially share it on social media to expand my library.

This is another project that is damn near complete. There are only a handful of chapters left, including the ending.

For this goal, I’m using 2-hour blocks of time on Thursday and Friday to continue writing the story. I might be able to get the book done before the end of June, but it’ll be awfully close. As long as I am working to finish the book, I’ll call it a win if I can’t wrap it up this month.

Boosting the Blog

Two Reviews per Month Minimum

Reviews are some of the most prominent pieces of content you can make for any medium. That’s because more than 90% of people read or watch reviews before making a purchase.

In fact, over the last 90 days, seven of the top 10 articles on this website have been reviews.

The goal in June is to review at least two products or services. I would try to do more, but they take time to research. I try to thoroughly test out something before I review it, and that takes a lot of time.

Nonetheless, they are worth the extra few hours to get it right. I’ve made more money in ad revenue alone on reviews than any other type of blog post.

Update Four Pieces of Content

I am currently working on a case study to demonstrate whether updating old content is worthwhile today. About eight years ago, updates meant growing traffic to a blog exponentially. I’m not sure how they work today, given the nature of AI results.

Regardless, it’s still worthwhile to update your old content for your followers and subscribers. You always want to give them the best version of yourself as possible. The last thing you want these people to think is that you’re obsolete.

For this goal, I have set aside two blocks of time throughout the week. Most updates shouldn’t take that long to complete, but I’ve had rewrites chew up four hours in the past. Sometimes, old stuff needs a complete overhaul.

Testing Performance Settings

It’s always a good use of time to test performance settings and keep the website in peak condition. Not only is performance a ranking factor for Google, but your visitors also want a fast and clean website.

In June, I’m going to test a few settings and plugins to see if I can improve the site overall. I found a few new tools recently that may work to do some great things for the blog and get it running smoothly.

The goal for this is simple enough: use at least a one-hour block of time to test settings and plugins at some point this month.

This is something that may wind up being a monthly objective. The back end of your site needs a bit of TLC to keep working smoothly. You can’t just build a blog and forget about the turning cogs that keep it functional. In other words, you gotta grease the wheels periodically.

Building Up YouTube

Consistent Uploads

YouTube has been a great addition to WriterSanctuary. I have met some great people, helped a lot of writers, and it generates more income than the blog. Well, just barely at the moment.

I want to get the channel back to a routine schedule of videos. This is in addition to the live content.

To meet this goal, I’ve set aside three, 2-hour blocks of time on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The idea is to get the videos published a week ahead of schedule. By the end of June, the channel should have a consistent flow of content.

Monday Night Topics

I would love to have topics during the Monday night live streams when I don’t have author interviews. We can still have the relaxed fun we normally do during After Hours, but I would like it to center around a specific topic.

For instance, the night we talked about writing great dialogue in movies was exceptionally fun for everyone and one of the more engaging videos.

This goal is an easy one: set up a spreadsheet for topic ideas and how they perform. Then, spend about an hour coming up with viable and interesting topics that might get people interacting in chat.

Pushing Memberships a Bit Harder

I haven’t done much with the YouTube channel in terms of memberships. I’ve set them up, but haven’t really marketed what the membership provides. That’s part of the routine video content. Members get to see videos a week before anyone else.

Anyway, I would like to see what else I can do to get people to become members. It would go a long way to helping me afford all of the great things I have for the brand.

This is probably going to be an ongoing goal, but for now, let’s plan out the membership content and come up with ways to announce it to the general populace and why they would want to join.

For this goal, I’m going to create a checklist of things to put into place to market the memberships a bit better. Maybe I can get a few more people to join in June.

Experiment with Shorts Again

I haven’t done much with Shorts on YouTube. In fact, I’ve made one Short since November of 2023…and that was just a video we posted on TikTok in October of 2024.

In the past 28 days, Shorts has had 184 views and gained two subscribers. That’s kind of funny when you consider I haven’t done anything with them in a very long time.

Oddly enough, seven of those views came from a Google search.

The goal is to upload at least three Shorts per week. Theoretically, it should only take a few minutes to make them. I’m only looking for subscribers at this point. Perhaps it’ll lead to a few more video views overall.

Update at the End?

I know it looks like an awful lot to build on in June. Yet, it’s not outside of what I can accomplish. The primary focus is time management. If I can put in at least 85% of the time throughout the week, I should be able to hit every goal.

This time, I’m going to schedule an Asana task as a priority to update this post once June is over. One of my ideas is to highlight the headers in red or green, depending on if I met the goal. Then, I’ll add an Update section to each breaking down I succeeded or failed.

The updates will be as much for me as they will be for anyone else. The idea is to learn from my mistakes and discuss what I could have done differently should I miss a goal.

I think I’ve talked about doing this once before. This time, it’s part of the practice of utilizing my time better while keeping the momentum going from month to month.

In fact, once this post goes live, I’m setting all of the tasks in Asana for the beginning of June so that I can’t use “I forgot” as an excuse. I look at my daily tasks all day long, so “forgetting” is not an option.

Why Pushing So Hard for Success This Time?

As I said earlier, I can’t go too much into detail, mostly because of contractual obligations. But I can say that the future looks a little shaky at the moment. I don’t have as solid of a ground to stand on after today, and that makes me uneasy.

I guess you can call it a bit of a wake-up call. I was too comfortable where I was sitting and was quite secure in the thought of the status quo. Now that the ship is rocking on the turbulent seas from the massive hurricane that landed on me, I can either right the craft or jump ship.

I’m choosing to grab the wheel and weather the storm.

In truth, I’m kicking myself for not putting in maximum effort years ago when I first built WriterSanctuary. Perhaps it was because I felt content just making enough to pay my bills. Now that my world has been shaken like a snow globe with a low water level, things are a bit more critical to continuing my career.

Well, at least my career as a creator and author. I can dump everything right now and work for a number of companies, making some decent money in the process. But I love what I do with WriterSanctuary, and don’t want to get rid of my passions.

But if I can’t pay my bills, I’ll have no other choice.

You see, WriterSanctuary is more than just a hobby for me. It’s part of who I am now, and the thought of tossing it all overboard makes me sick to my stomach.

Long story short, it’s high time I pulled my head out of my ass and got this thing moving.

Let’s Make June EPIC

The future is unclear. The storm rolled in pretty damn fast and the waves are insanely aggressive. But I’m not going to panic. Instead, I’m going to right the ship and keep her moving forward.

As long as I stay mindful of my time utilization on a weekly basis, I’m confident that I’ll achieve a large number of the goals above if not all of them. I have my work cut out for me. It won’t be easy, as life has a way of increasing the power of that storm. But as I’ve said thousands of times before…
