Developing a successful blog is much more difficult than what many may believe. Although it’s true that it can make a great deal of money if its developed properly, there are many facets that need to be developed before it can do such. Simply writing about your preferred niche isn’t going to be enough.
Blogs are quite frequent on the Internet. They are easy to build and can engage a great deal of readers. Unfortunately, many blogs fail to make a substantial income for their creators. Think about it, wouldn’t it be nice to bring in so much money that you don’t have to work ever again and all you need to do is write a few posts every day on your blog?
Your Topics
What you write about will be the first deciding factor in how popular your blog becomes. If you have a niche that isn’t popular, it will be exceedingly difficult to succeed. That doesn’t mean that you should simply give up on your passion for the topic. It just means that you may need to work harder in order to develop a popular website.
Your Competition
With a new blog hitting the Internet every 0.5 seconds, there is plenty of competition you are going to face. All of the search engine optimization practices you put into place are also being done by your direct competitors. Don’t expect your site to become an instant success. Your “perfect” keywords are also used by those other blogs. You need to add something more to your site that the other developers do not.
Your Marketing
If you want visitors to come to your site, they need to know it exists. This means you need to have some kind of a marketing strategy. You don’t necessarily have to spend money in order to grow your site, but it does help. What other ways can improve your site’s performance?
- Twitter Account: Linking a twitter account to your blog can be of great benefit as long as you are using the right material on the social site.
- Google+ Page: Hashtags work just as well in Google+ as they do in Twitter. Setting up a Google+ page can help you gain additional traffic.
- Facebook Page: You can create business pages linked to your Facebook profile for free. However, I’ve found Facebook to be less of a building method for marketing than Twitter and Google+.
- YouTube Videos: Not everyone is a reader and developing a YouTube channel can help you gain additional notoriety through those video watching individuals.
How Long Does it Take to Make Money?
When you first begin your blog, it could take months to years to build a strong enough reader-base to make any significant amount of money. However, it is possible to build success faster. The primary deciding factor for any blog to succeed is time. How much time you put into developing your website will determine how successful it will become.
More Content
You can’t write a single post per month on a blog and expect people to come flocking to the site. The more informative and relevant content you deliver, the more attractive the site will be to visitors and search engines.
Share Information
The more information a visitor can find on your site, the better. An individual needs to feel informed when leaving any website. This can help as your blog can then be shared with the visitor’s friends turning occasional readers into repeating fans.
Social Activity
We live in a socially connected world. Keep frequent with Tweets, posts and conversations. You’ll be shocked with how much attention your site can attract by adding your “two-cents” into a hashtag conversation on Twitter.
Every blog is different. Everyone has a different point of view regarding subject matter. Offer your visitors something that your competitors don’t have. Spend a few days analyzing your site. Make a pros and cons list of what you believe is your site’s strengths and weaknesses. However, you must be honest with yourself. You need to step outside of being the owner of the blog and try to see it from a visitor perspective. Why would anyone want to visit your site?
