Getting Yourself Revved Up for the New Year

Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to start focusing on the new year. It’s time to revitalize ourselves and make those leaps and bounds we thought about on New Years Eve. But what if you’re having a problem with getting yourself revved up to accomplish your goals? Are you finding yourself slipping into the same rut as before? I know I am. That doesn’t mean we have to give up on making this our banner year.

Getting Your Mojo Going for the New Year

waking up to workI know that some situations make getting the year going more difficult. However, I still believe anyone can accomplish their goals. You just need to find your mojo and get into a groove. Once you find that sweet spot for yourself, things will just start clicking together.

Both positive and negative emotions and actions cause a ripple effect throughout our lives. It’s up to you to choose which one will have the greatest impact. Yes, being positive now will certainly have a positive influence down the road. But so will negativity.

So, how do we get our motors revved up to face the challenges of 2017? What can we do to get a more positive focus on life and the direction we are going?

Identify and Deal with Issues

No one likes to pick at the negative aspects of themselves. In fact, a lot of us live in denial about ourselves. Unfortunately, this often leads to a myriad of problems. Identifying these areas and taking measures to fix them will only serve to make life that much better.

For example, I am falling back into my bad sleeping patterns. As a result, I start my mornings way later than I want to. My mind is often more cloudy, and I find it difficult to stay on task when I am like this. Case in point, this blog post should have been done an hour ago.

I know that some issues are more difficult to immediately deal with than others. However, you still need to take steps to correct the problem if you want any hope of being successful. In my case, it’s finding ways to force myself to go to bed at a reasonable time.

Every problem has a solution. But, not everyone admits the problem exists in the first place. And that is the first step to getting yourself revved up for the new year…identifying what is holding you back and taking steps to correct it. Otherwise, you’ll continue to spin your wheels without getting traction in life.

Breaking Bad Habits

changesOne of the reasons why many of us stay in the same routine is because it becomes habitual. We find ourselves in this particular comfort zone and find it difficult to break free. I’m not just talking about drugs, alcohol or cigarettes. No, I am talking about the daily-life habits we develop over time.

For instance, I have a tenancy to focus on working just enough to pay the bills. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work. Because I didn’t put in more effort, I often find it difficult to pay the bills on Friday. This mindset has caused so many problems for myself in the past. It’s one of the biggest things I want to work on in the new year.

These bad habits you develop are often what keep you stuck in the same routine day after day. A lot of us even know the habits are there in the first place but do nothing to stop. Sometimes we do things without even thinking and then get upset for falling back into those routines. However, it’s a process that has to be made if you want to improve yourself.

Govern Over Yourself

It’s difficult to force yourself to change the way you live your life sometimes. Many of us will try to talk ourselves out of doing the right thing to accomplish our goals for a myriad of reasons. Keep in mind that nothing will change and your goals will be prolonged if you don’t take the steps now to make a difference.

I get mad at myself when I think about how I could have reached my goal weight by now or I could have had more work published on Wattpad if I would have focused more on getting into my groove. The trick is to not let that anger turn into frustration. Otherwise, I might begin to feel sorry for myself and quit trying to achieve my goals again.

Sometimes you have to tell yourself out loud to do something. I yell at myself all the time to “get it done” or to “get your ass out of bed.” This is because the logical part of my mind knows that my goals will never be complete unless I take action. And that’s the part of yourself you need to listen to.

Focus on the Daily Goals

overthinkingI know I talk about daily goals a lot. That’s because I know how they can impact your mindset. For instance, I know I feel a lot better when I accomplish something for the day. And that’s what you should focus on. It’s these small accomplishments that fuel into motivation and confidence to be successful.

If you have a bad day, keep in mind that tomorrow is different. Don’t let the issues of yesterday affect your progress for today. If you do, you’ll find it more difficult to achieve any goal. Yesterday is in the past, and there’s nothing you can do to change those events. Instead, focus on what positive you can accomplish in the hear-and-now.

Remember, be realistic with yourself. While it’s good to push to accomplish some things, you don’t want to set yourself up for failure. Any victory is still a victory no matter how small. When you get excited about the small things, the larger ones feel even better.

It’s All About Your Mindset

The new year gives us all a chance to make profound changes. But crossing these roads is more difficult if you don’t have the right mindset. Everyone has potential to alter life in prolific ways. It all starts with how you view yourself and understanding who you are.
