Although many bloggers simply write because they like to share, there are some of us who actively try to gain a larger audience. Don’t get me wrong, sharing for the sake of sharing may be perfect for you. However, I would like to try and reach a broader audience. There is a bit of debate surrounding whether or not blogging every day helps search engine optimization. From my experience, it’s worth the effort.[adrotate banner=”8″]
How Blogging Every Day Boosts the Website
I’ve read a few articles where expert bloggers attest that writing once or twice a week is more ideal. Others say that two or three times a day is the best. In reality, it all depends on what you want to accomplish. For some, perhaps one or two 3,000 word articles is perfect for the week. However, there are a few things that you’ll be missing if you do such a small amount.
Expanding the Audience
When you write more than one piece, you’re giving your audience something else to read. Not everyone will be looking for that one post you created this week. By creating more content, the audience has a better chance of finding your website. It’s been my experience that more posts covering various topics of a specific niche has been the most productive.
Take my health and fitness blog, for example. Currently, one of my reviews is constantly growing in terms of exposure in search engines each month. In second place is an article I wrote about overeating. Even though these two pieces are different, they relate to health in general. By expanding the content on the website, I’ve also expanded the number of visitors I receive.
Every post I create receives traffic of some kind from search engines and social media. Someone may be looking for some other aspect of health aside from the two posts I created. Without that content on my website, I would be missing out on the traffic.
Constantly Increasing Displays
Over the past year, I’ve closely monitored my blogs to determine the best strategies. In that time, I noticed that older posts seem to get more attention with the more I wrote in general. For instance, older posts increased in search results if I write 30 posts per month. The less I write, the less attention those posts received. In fact, Writer Sanctuary’s old posts are also showing up more often in search results since I’ve been trying to write on this site regularly. In my experience, blogging every day has vastly increased SEO.
It all falls back on the adage, “you can’t please 100% of the people 100% of the time.” However, you can expand your reach by giving people information they’re looking for about any given topic. You don’t have to aim for total coverage, but diversifying the content will attract more readers than just one or two posts.
In a way, I view my websites as a form of online library of information. The more information you have, the more likely people are going to visit. You wouldn’t spend time browsing a book store if there were a handful of titles on the shelves. What if the small store didn’t have what you’re looking for? You’d move on to a store that does. It’s similar with websites.
Knowing Your Audience Helps
Your audience will help you determine if blogging every day is an ideal process or not. For all of my blogs, it’s a resounding, “Yes!” I get visitors from all over the world looking for health information. While reviews are often the most popular, many people find the food-related content to be useful as well. My audience helps me cultivate what I do with any site I operate. As a result, I achieve a greater level of SEO for bringing in traffic.
I pay close attention to analytics in order to determine what kind of content is the most popular on my site. At which point, I try to create more of that material. If you don’t have tools like Google Analytics, you’re missing out on tons of data.
Increasing Your Knowledge
One of the greatest reasons why I write every day is to increase my knowledge of any given topic. Since I research virtually every piece I write, I vastly increase my understanding of the specific industry. For instance, operating the health and fitness blog has been very beneficial to understand how the human body works. Since I love to learn as much as I can, blogging every day has been more educational than anything.
How does knowing a topic increase SEO? It’s the relevancy of your website. Engines like Google have moved to a “quality first” platform. The more relevant your content and links become, the happier the search engines are. By learning more about your niche, you can create that quality evergreen content that those engines hold in high regard. It will also denote professionalism while giving you access to a wide variety of keywords and phrases for attracting new visitors.
Keeping Active with Social Media
While it’s easy to keep active on social sites like Facebook and Twitter, blogging every day gives you something else to share. Over the past few months, I’ve slowly cultivated a small following by giving people a variety of material related to a specific niche.
I use Buffer in order to share the links of my newest posts to Facebook, Goolge+ and Twitter simultaneously. As a result, a fair amount of the traffic my health and fitness site receives comes from those social sites. If you haven’t looked into it yet, it may be something worthwhile.
When it comes to the development of your website, it all centers around your personal goals. To say that blogging every day is more or less ideal is false. All anyone can really state is how well a certain method works for them. Discover what works best for you and what you’re trying to accomplish. That is what will determine your idea of success.
