Proper fitness can contribute to a wide assortment of things in your life. It’s more than just slimming down the waistline or dropping a few pounds for the summer. In reality, it’s a way of life that can make profound changes in everything from grocery shopping to boosting the power of your brain. Essentially, practicing healthy living can make a difference in your ability to write.
The Impact of Fitness on the Brain
Fitness isn’t all about building muscle and endurance. It’s a way to improve your brain’s ability to process information. When you give this organ vital nutrients, it performs better. When people talk of “brain foods,” their not just blowing smoke. Certain foods have been found to enhance the mind such as memory and rational thought.
Exercise also contributes to the health and well-being of the brain. The increase of blood and oxygen while you exercise enhances a wide range of abilities. It contributes to making you more alert while protecting things like your memory.
Healthy Body, Healthy Mind
According to studies, regular exercise enhances cognitive abilities. In fact, studies also suggest that people who exercise regularly have greater volume of brain matter in areas that control memory and thinking. As a result, your mind becomes more efficient. This leads to the idea that exercise can directly affect your ability to write whether you’re a ghostwriter or an author.
This doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be a failure as a writer if you don’t believe in fitness. But based on studies such as these, it has vast potential to increase your abilities.
Take me for example. I am considered obese, which I am in the middle of fixing. I have also been a successful ghostwriter for more than four years. On the days when I exercise first thing in the morning, I feel more energized and seem to focus better on projects for my clients. I am eager to see just how far fitness can take my writing career.
Nutrition and You
Proper nutrition doesn’t just affect your midsection. Vitamins and minerals play more of a part than simply making sure your scale doesn’t bottom out. Certain foods have been found to directly affect the mind’s ability to process information. For example, the nutrients and antioxidants in blueberries have been found to stave off mental ailments such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids have also been known to contribute to the health of the brain. Examples of these include tuna fish, salmon and spinach. Not only are omega-3’s good for the brain, but they are immensely beneficial for the body as well. In essence, you may increase your brain power by including more of these foods over time.
Now, I’m not saying that eating a bucket of blueberries will allow you to write a novel as grand as “War and Peace.” But your ability to think, reason and create will be improved over time by eating better. How long this will take is dependent on your own personal physiology. However, there is a ton of data that demonstrates how food can improve the abilities of the brain.
Fitness is More Than Looking Like a Model
You don’t have to aim for looking like a supermodel in order to benefit from fitness. It’s not about how much weight you can lift or how fast you can run. It’s about taking care of your body and letting the brain reach its potential. Everything from the food you eat to a lack of activity will affect your mind and how you think.
It’s quite obvious that health and fitness will contribute to improving your life. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t realize just how much of an impact it makes. The brain is like any other organ in your body. Taking care of it will enhance the way you write over time. If you’re a good writer now, imagine what you could do after 12 months of practicing proper fitness.
