If you don’t know, WriterSanctuary has a YouTube channel focusing on the same content as the blog. Every Monday, I have a live show, After Hours, and I am looking at adding a guest or two.
I’ve been wanting to expand After Hours to do more interviews, and I figured 2024 would be the year to start.
What is After Hours?
After Hours was a YouTube podcast that a friend and I started for the fun of it. Although he left after a few episodes, I kept it going as several regular viewers seemed to like starting the week with WriterSanctuary.
Since then, it’s been more of a hang-out than anything. I’ve been trying to keep conversations focused on writing, but we’re too lax for that. Well, plus, I’m easily distracted.
Starting in 2024, I want to include more author interviews. My audience seems to enjoy them, especially when it comes to success stories and motivation.
You’ll be asked a variety of questions from myself as well as my audience. You don’t have to answer any questions that you feel are inappropriate, and I’ll do my best to keep those out of the feed.
I have a few moderators who are quick to squick those who are being unruly.
The show is often more casual than most, and I have the mouth of a drunken pirate. But I try to be on my best behavior when I have a guest in my house.
I’m working on a way to put the most current interview in the sidebar of this website. For now, I try to share them as often as I can.
What is Required to be a Guest on After Hours?
The requirements for being a guest on the show aren’t all that extravagant. Mostly, I just want those who are either published or have release dates in the near future of their books.
So, whether you are publishing your first novel or have several already available, feel free to reach out.
The only stipulation I have is that your book has a “guaranteed” availability or release date. In other words, if you’re still working on your drafts and haven’t posted the book on sites like Amazon for a specific release date yet, let’s wait.
I’ve had too many people who say they are “authors” but don’t have anything for my audience to read. I want to help you promote your book or books.
I might expand the requirements later. But for now, I’m just looking for serious authors who are releasing books.
Video Capability is a Bonus
The interviews are live on YouTube. That means having video capability in any regard is ideal. However, I’m sure we can work something out to only have your voice if you want to remain out of the public eye.
I find it a bit odd, but a lot of authors don’t want to be seen, and I can respect that.
If you want to go the video route, I mostly use Discord. Nonetheless, we can use any video platform you’re comfortable using as long as it’s in a browser window.
I use OBS to capture video feeds from Chrome. As long as I can see you, my audience can see you.
No, There Is No FEE!
Lastly, I want to point out that I never have, and never will, charge anyone for being on my show. I care more about helping you get your name out there and the potential watch time for the YouTube channel.
Nothing more.
I see it as a win-win for us; you get exposure and I might get a few more minutes added to the YouTube Partner Program. It’s worth it for me to have you on as a guest for After Hours.
Why Consider Being a Guest?
While some people may disagree, I think we have a fun show on Monday nights. A lot of people like starting the week off with After Hours, as I often try to be inspiring and uplifting.
Still, let’s get practical with why you might want to consider being on After Hours.
- I try to promote you and the interview as much as time allows, which includes all of my social accounts.
- WriterSanctuary has a small channel but it is growing quickly. You can reach a few new potential readers!
- I do what I can to have you and the interview crawled in search by Google.
- We try to have as much fun as we can.
- And, I never charge a fee for being on my show. That is just greed to the Nth, and I do not condone it.
- I’m working on creating a page to showcase all of the authors I’ve had on the show. This means even more exposure for you.

This isn’t a guaranteed spot on the show, but it starts the ball rolling. I vet everyone who I have on After Hours.
An Example of the Show
Now, before you watch the clip, keep in mind that I’ve only done three interviews in my life. One of those was with my sister, Angela Miller.
Needless to say, I’m not a professional at it and was a bit nervous this time around.
Spending time with Laura E. Thompson was amazing!
Always Working to Promote Authors, Especially New Ones
I know how difficult marketing can be, especially for a self-published indie author. Being a guest on After Hours is just my contribution to helping you get your name out there. By nature, I love to help when I can.
Let’s see if we can help each other grow.
