WordPress is a powerful tool that allows users to create almost any kind of website. Through plugins and features, there is almost no limit to what you can accomplish. When it comes time to create content in WordPress, these features can take your material to greater heights. Here are some of my favorite tools that help me build content both on and off of the system.
Tools For Creating Better Content
Having a good grasp of grammar and having something interesting to say are only parts of driving traffic. A lot more goes into delivering material that is easy to read by both humans and the search engines. What tools should you use to drive your own website?
1. Yoast SEO for WordPress
I know I mention Yoast in many posts. That is because this tool has a great deal of functionality driving it. Using some of the best, and current, search engine optimization practices on the Internet, this plugin helps you create content perfect for Google and Bing. This isn’t too mention how it impacts the average user.
Yoast monitors everything from the readability of your text to the saturation of your focus keyword. This helps make your material easier to read for the average Joe. One of the things I like most about Yoast is that it also provides recommendations on how to fix problem areas of your content. As soon as I have the extra money, I am surely buying the premium version of the plugin. However, the free version is still a powerful tool to create content in WordPress.

2. Keyword Statistics
Even though Keyword Statistics hasn’t been updated in more than four years, I still find it incredibly useful. It keeps track of keywords in real-time as you write. This is important to consider as sites like Google will penalize your webpages if you saturate the content with keywords. For example, using a certain word in every sentence throughout the piece can actually cause the page to perform poorly in search results.
I find it useful as it gives me a chance to see the words at work. Keyword Statistics also shows two and three word combinations, which also benefit when you’re looking at ways to market your post. Yes, it’s an old tool…but it’s useful to me. If you have one that works just as well, feel free to post it in the comments section. I’m always interested in finding new tools.
3. Post Thesaurus
Speaking of outdated plugins, Post Thesaurus hasn’t been touched in more than six years. However, it too is still quite useful. It places a miniature thesaurus next to your editing page in WordPress. When you’re tired of using certain words over and over, put the word into the tool and you’ll get a handful of alternatives.
I found myself using this one quite a bit. It saves time from going back and forth from Google to WordPress. Although the list of alternative words isn’t nearly as wide as you would find in a search engine, it can be helpful to cut some time off your writing. This is another plugin for creating content in WordPress I wouldn’t mind swapping out if someone has an alternative.
4. TinyMCE Advanced
The TinyMCE editor for WordPress does great for developing content. However, the TinyMCE Advanced takes the experience to greater levels. It adds a whole new layer of functionality by providing many of the same tools you would find in a standard word processor application.
Perhaps my favorite feature of this plugin is the ability to drag-and-drop the tools you want or need. You can completely customize the layout while removing the functions that are just taking up space. You also have additional tool bars in case you want to keep certain tools and functions separate and easy to find.
5. Surveys by IgniteFeedback
If you’ve been on this website longer than 45 seconds, you’ll have seen the feedback window open automatically. This is a great tool to help you gather information about your target audience. Google Analytics can only go so far as to demonstrate what visitors want to view more on your site. A survey can actually give them a voice.
I use Surveys by IgniteFeedback because it’s simple and quite effective. I currently use it to help me decide future content based on what my readers like most. In reality, it can be a part of any data gathering project. It’s a fairly new plugin, but the developers are quite friendly and express interest in what you think the plugin should include.
Make Your Content in WordPress Shine
Don’t get me wrong, the default editing system in WordPress is great. However, there is just so much more you can do with your material once you find plugins that fit your needs and tastes. With so many that are available, you can easily find something to help you create content in WordPress that is marvelous and easy to read by all – human and machine alike.
Creating content in WordPress can be fun and quite addicting for those who love to blog. With the right plugins, you can deliver something unique to your readers.
