The last time I did a giveaway, I was at 500 subscribers and handed out a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble. This time, I want to go bigger, especially since 1000 subscribers is a more pronounced milestone.
And it’s something I probably could have hit a long time ago if I would have been more consistent with uploading videos.
Yes, more are on the way. I’m just trying to work out the logistics of owning and operating so much by myself.
Right now, I am running a poll to see what kind of things you want as part of the giveaway. I’m still toying with other ideas, but your vote may change the outcome of what I give.
Especially since you can write in your own suggestions.
Why a Giveaway at 1000 Subscribers?
I love doing giveaways. Especially if I can find a fun way to do so. I am spending the next few weeks coming up with a plan to make the milestone something memorable.
Not only for myself but for all of those who’ve supported me since starting the YouTube channel. And that includes every single person who has read a blog post or watched a video.
In fact, this is also a celebration for the WriterSanctuary blog as well. This is the second month in a row that it has surpassed the highest number of visitors.
This is also the first month that I’ve had such a large payout from AdSense from all of the websites.
In other words, everything is working out awesomely in 2021!
Thanking Everyone Who Reads or Watches the Content
I started the YouTube channel as a way to augment the blog posts. This way, visitors can either read or watch the content. And if it wasn’t for the people who appreciate my work, I wouldn’t keep doing what I do.
In reality, I create the content for my audience. I’ve never really thought of using the YouTube channel to make money. It’s more of a way to help those who need it and interact with viewers.
So, this is my way of thanking everyone who visits the blog or the YouTube channel.
I Love Helping Others as Often as I Can
For the most part, I am a philanthropist. I care more about the welfare of others than I do myself. And as long as I can keep my bills paid, then I don’t mind sharing the wealth.
Although I don’t have a lot of “wealth” to hand out, I do have enough to make a difference for someone.
It’s one of the biggest reasons why I built ColoradoPlays.com in the first place. And things are telling me that this is going to be a good year for charity.
It’s Not All About Marketing Tactics
Most brands do giveaways, coupons, and discounts as a way to market to the masses. And in most cases, it works exceptionally well. However, I’m not the kind of person to toss money out there in such a fashion.
For me, doing a giveaway at 1000 subscribers is more to help and engage those who consume my content.
Don’t get me wrong, I would be ecstatic if this helped me reach 2000 in a shorter period of time. But, I want people to watch or read the content because they like what I put out there in the world.
Not because of what I can give them for free.
What Has 1000 Subscribers Taught Me About YouTube?
So many people aim for getting 1000 subs as quickly as possible. For me, it’s been a growing experience. And over the last two years, I’ve realized quite a bit about using YouTube.
I Need to Be More Consistent
First of all, I need to be more consistent with content. And, I need to branch out a bit further than just being well-known for Textbroker content.
In fact, it’s my goal to put out more videos in 2021.
The hardest part is finding the time to create the videos. Each one can take anywhere from two to four hours of my day. With everything I am involved in, it’s just not realistic most of the time.
After all, I still have my bills to pay and clients to make happy.
But if I can get more videos out, that might widen the scope of the audience I generate. Then again, my small little channel could simply sink into the oblivion of YouTube’s algorithm.
That I Still Need Watch Time
Just because I hit 1000 subscribers, it doesn’t mean I’ll be enrolled in the YouTube Partnership Program. I simply don’t have the 4000 hours of watch time within a 12-month stretch.
Again, this has a lot to do with the fact that I don’t upload videos consistently.
Although the live streams every Monday are helping me reach that goal, it’ll still be a while until I see a welcome email from YouTube.
I just don’t have enough of a library that piques the interest of viewers. This is something I am looking closely at for 2021, though. I know there are a lot of writing topics that I’m missing.
Maintaining the Channel is Incredibly Fun
To be perfectly honest, I’m happy just maintaining the channel. For me, it’s been an incredibly fun experience. And getting the “thank you”s from my viewers is far worth more than anything YouTube’s AdSense can give me.
In fact, interacting with the audience is the biggest reason why I moved to doing a live stream every Monday. It’s my social life…especially in the middle of a pandemic.
What I need to do is find a way to relax more and come up with some fun content that is relevant to writing from home. I have a few ideas in the works, and I’m not sure how well they will go over with the audience.
But in any case, it has still been a very fun experience.
That I Still Have a Lot to Learn
Getting to 1000 subscribers is the easy part. Keeping them coming back for more is another tale altogether. I don’t see myself as a YouTube expert by any stretch of the imagination.
Hell, I don’t even think my video thumbnails are all that effective.
In reality, I don’t know if I will ever see myself as a YouTube expert. At any rate, I will continue to push forward and see just how far this blog and the channel can take me.
Here’s to Another 1000 Subscribers!
I never thought I would hit 1000 subscribers. Back when I started the channel, I kind of had a dim view of myself as a YouTuber. This all comes from having severe impostor syndrome.
But as the channel moved forward, I realized that I have far more potential than I gave myself credit for. Hitting 1000 is helping me overcome a lot of misgivings regarding myself as a professional.
So, let’s make this an incredible moment in the history of WriterSanctuary. Let’s see how long it takes to hit 2000!
